Concerns of Autocracy Arise, NC Must Remain Vigilant: Dr. Shekhar Koirala
Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has expressed apprehensions regarding the formation of coalition governments between major political parties in a democracy, suggesting it could lead towards autocracy and instability.
Speaking in Birgunj on Thursday, Koirala emphasized the need for vigilance, stating, “Congress must remain vigilant to ensure that such tendencies do not take root.”
Highlighting the importance of amending the constitution for political stability, Koirala clarified the necessity of forming alliances with the Unified Marxist–Leninist (UML) party to achieve this goal. He also said about the amendments aimed at enabling a single party to secure a majority through direct elections, thereby reducing the reliance on coalition governments.
