Ambar Bahadur Bista Unopposedly Elected Koshi Province Speaker; Takes Oath of Office

In a significant development for Koshi Province, Ambar Bahadur Bista, a politician from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, has been elected as the Speaker unopposed. The announcement was made during the provincial assembly meeting on Tuesday, where Deputy Speaker Srijana Danuwar revealed that no other candidates contested against Bista, leading to his uncontested victory.

The position of Speaker had been vacant since August 1, following the resignation of the then Speaker, Baburam Gautam. Bista’s candidacy was proposed by Bhakti Prasad Sitaula, the provincial assembly leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, and seconded by Prem Raj Thamsuhang. Notably, no other political parties presented candidates in opposition to Bista’s nomination.

Ambar Bahadur Bista, aged 70, earned his place in the provincial assembly through a proportional representation system during the elections held last year. His extensive experience and dedication to public service have contributed to his unopposed election, emphasizing the trust placed in him by his party members.

Following the announcement of his victory, the newly elected Speaker took the oath of office and secrecy in a ceremony presided over by provincial head Parshuram Khapung. Bista’s assumption of the Speaker’s role marks a pivotal moment for Koshi Province, as he undertakes the responsibility to lead the provincial assembly and address the diverse needs and concerns of the region.
