Beni-Jomsom-Korala Road Nears Completion with 85% Progress

The Beni-Jomsom-Korala section of the Kaligandaki Corridor, a key part of the North-South Trade Route Expansion Project, has achieved 85% completion, according to project officials.

Excluding nine newly added projects for the current fiscal year, the overall physical progress of the section stands at 85%, stated Bishnu Chapagain, Information Officer of the Beni-Jomsom-Korala Road Project. Road upgrading has seen 85% completion, while 84% of bridge and culvert construction is finished.

Initiated in the fiscal year 2016/17, this national pride project aims to establish a direct link to the northern Korala border transit point. Under the expansion efforts, seven major road sections have been blacktopped, while six have been graveled. The completed blacktopping phases include Beni-Kalipul, Beni-Galeshwor, Tatopani-Kaiku, Kaiku-Kowang, and Jomsom-Kagbeni in Myagdi district.

Work on the Jomsom-Korala segment has progressed through six phases, with graveling on the 25-km Charang-Chhoser section nearing completion. Of the contracted 105 km for blacktopping, 75 km has been finished, while 90 km of the 110-km Jomsom-Korala stretch has been graveled, according to the Project Office.

Bridge construction has also seen significant progress, with 14 of the planned 19 bridges already completed—nine in Mustang and five in Myagdi—while the remaining bridges are under construction.
