By-election Silent Period to Start from Midnight Today

The Election Commission has announced that the silent period for the upcoming by-elections will commence from midnight tonight. This cessation of campaigning is in compliance with the election code of conduct, which mandates a 48-hour silent period prior to the polling day on April 27.

The by-elections are scheduled to take place in Ilam constituency No. 2 for the Representative Assembly and in Bajhang constituency No. 1 ‘Ka’ for the Provincial Assembly.

During the silent period, all forms of electoral campaigning, including discussions, interactions, meetings, conferences, workshops, and seminars, are strictly prohibited. The commission also emphasized that this ban extends to social media promotions.

A special monitoring mechanism has been established by the Election Commission to ensure adherence to the code of conduct and to address any violations during this critical pre-election phase.
