China Expresses Interest in Nepal’s BRI Preparations, Says Deputy PM Shrestha

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha recently concluded a visit to China where he engaged in discussions concerning the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Upon his return to Nepal, Shrestha emphasized that he had urged Chinese officials to increase their financial support for Nepal’s economic development and prosperity.

During his visit, Shrestha noted that Chinese officials expressed curiosity about Nepal’s preparations to leverage the benefits of the BRI project.

Nepal signed the BRI agreement in 2017, and since then, the government has been working on the implementation plan. According to Home Minister Shrestha, the draft of Nepal’s implementation plan for the BRI has been exchanged with Chinese officials. He further explained that the ongoing discussions would focus on specific projects and modalities to finalize the draft.

“In our efforts to finalize the draft, we will engage in discussions regarding specific projects and modalities. We are hopeful that through this process, we will be able to derive significant benefits from the Belt and Road Initiative,” Shrestha stated.
