Dhangadhi Sub-metropolis Turns Waste into Wealth

Dhangadhi Sub-metropolis has generated Rs 4.55 million by converting household waste into valuable resources through its Waste Segregation Centre in Ward No. 2. The center, operational since the last fiscal year, earned Rs 2.55 million in the previous fiscal and Rs 2 million in the first eight months of the current fiscal year.
Contracted to Nanda Devi Service Center for five years, the facility processes 21 tons of waste daily from nine wards. Waste is segregated into plastic, iron, tin, aluminum, rubber, shoes, and paper, with 70 percent of the collected waste being recycled or converted into biogas. The sorted waste is sold in markets including Dhangadhi, Biratnagar, Bhairahawa, and Dang, creating 140 jobs in the process.
