Documentary ‘Himal Ko Pukar’ screened in COP28

A documentary entitled ‘Himal Ko Pukar (Plea of the Mountain)’ featuring the damage caused by climate change in Nepal has been broadcast in the 2023 UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) that recently concluded in the United Arab Emirates.

The documentary shows the impacts of the rapid melting of snow in the mountains including Mount Everest and Annapurna and the occurrence of floods and landslides in Manang, Mustang, Helambu, Melamchi, Shey Phoksundo and Tarai Madhes due to climate change.

The film has drawn the special attention of the world for doing justice to Nepal through the voices of the people of the affected areas. The documentary was written and directed by Chairperson of the Press Council Nepal Bal Krishna Basnet.

The film was screened at an event on the sidelines of the Conference organised on the initiatives of the Ministry of Forest and Environment of Nepal and Sathsathai, a non-profitable organisation, said Basnet.

Following the screening of the documentary, an interaction on the film was held with the participation of experts.

In the COP 27 in Egypt last year, a documentary entitled ‘The Voice for Climate Justice’ was screened. The documentary was also written and directed by Basnet.
