‘E-Commerce Bill promotes businesses’

Chairperson of Legislative Management Committee of the National Assembly, Jayanti Devi Rai, has said the E-Commerce Bill, 2080, serves the interests of the business community.

During an interaction programme with bodies concerned regarding the E-Commerce Bill, 2080, in today’s meeting of the Committee, Chair Rai argued that attempts have been made to bring the bill in favour of the business community and the consumers alike. “We have tried to incorporate appropriate suggestions of bodies cornered in order to make e-commerce business systematic and reliable.”

She shared that the Committee has been playing coordinative role to further strengthen the bill realising that the bill is incomplete.

On the occasion, Co-founder and Spokesperson of Silicon Hire (Mero Adda), Alok Subedi, pointed out the need of holding discussions with local levels in order to make e-business strong since similar businesses are bound by many laws.

Saying the Bill has not protected service providers, Managing Director of Pathao Nepal, Asim Man Singh Basnet, laid emphasis on the need of revising the Bill to promote the private businesses.

Similarly, Managing Director of Daraz Kaymu Achal Kunwar said it was necessary for the government to impart training to engage in e-commerce in a sustainable manner by promoting small and medium-sized enterprises.

Likewise, Chief Executive Officer of Hamro Bazaar Ventures Rohit Tiwari mentioned that a provision should be added to facilitate the warranty of goods and service as maintenance of the goods and service was not the responsibility of the business intermediaries.

Other concerned members complained that although e-commerce is said as the business done through internet, it has not incorporated the business done through social networking sites.

However, Secretary of Consumers Welfare Protection, Jay Prasad Poudel, stressed the need of holding further discussion keeping the consumers in centre as all laws are directly or indirectly connected with consumers.
