EC Imposes Rs 350,000 Expenditure Cap for NA Candidates

The Election Commission (EC) has officially announced a maximum expenditure cap of Rs 350,000 for candidates participating in the upcoming National Assembly (NA) election. The move is aimed at ensuring transparency, fairness, and ethical conduct in the electoral process.

Through a press statement, the EC detailed the breakdown of expenses that fall under this cap, including the acquisition of voter lists, transportation, fuel, publicity, supplies, seminars, interactions, office operations, and the mobilization of representatives. The commission emphasized the need for candidates to manage their campaign budgets responsibly.

In a bid to enhance financial transparency, candidates are now required to establish a dedicated bank account specifically for campaign expenses. Furthermore, each candidate must appoint a responsible individual to oversee financial matters and provide detailed expenditure reports to the EC. This step is crucial in fostering accountability and preventing any undue influence on the election process.

The EC’s decision to set a maximum expenditure limit aligns with its commitment to creating a level playing field for all candidates and parties. By introducing these measures, the commission aims to curb excessive spending and promote ethical practices, ensuring that the electoral arena remains fair and just.
