Election Commission Unveils Sample Ballot for National Assembly Elections

The Election Commission (EC) has publicly released the sample ballot for the upcoming National Assembly elections scheduled for January 25. The comprehensive ballot, categorized by provinces, was made available to the public on Wednesday through the Commission’s official website.

Notably, mayors, deputy mayors, and chairpersons-vice-chairpersons will cast their votes using a distinctive red-colored ballot, while members of the Provincial Assembly will utilize a green-colored ballot, ensuring clarity in the voting process.

The National Assembly election is set to witness the participation of 51 candidates representing eight political parties. The candidate nominations, a crucial step in the electoral process, were officially registered on January 8.

According to the Election Commission, the distribution of candidates across provinces is as follows: five candidates each in Koshi and Madhes, 15 in Bagmati, eight in Gandaki, and six in Lumbini Province. Similarly, Karnali Province and Sudurpashchim Province will see the participation of six candidates each.

The diversity of candidates is apparent in various categories, with 18 candidates representing the women’s group, five for the Dalit group, eight for persons with disabilities or minority communities, and 20 for other groups. This collective effort results in a total of 51 candidates spread across all provinces, showcasing a broad spectrum of representation in the electoral landscape.
