Fire in Halesi Destroys Properties Worth Over Rs 70 Million

A fire caused by a cooking gas cylinder leak in Halesi, a significant religious site, resulted in property losses exceeding Rs 70.3 million.

The blaze erupted in the kitchen of Padam Shumsher Rai’s residence in Mahadevsthan, Halesi Tuwachung Municipality-7, spreading rapidly and engulfing four houses, three hotels, a hardware shop, and a microfinance office, according to Acting Chief District Officer Hiradhan Rai.

Although no human casualties were reported, the financial loss was substantial. Halesi Tuwachung Municipality spokesperson Kamal Giri confirmed that various agencies assisted in controlling the fire and that efforts are underway to secure compensation for the victims. “We are coordinating with different agencies and implementing a one-door policy for aid distribution,” he said.

The fire, which broke out around 7:00 PM, was finally brought under control after four hours with the help of approximately 500 individuals, including security forces.

Chief Police Inspector Hemant Rai of Halesi Police Office noted that Halesi’s dry conditions and water shortages made fire containment difficult. He also highlighted the lack of firefighting resources in the local government, which contributed to the extensive damage.
