Former Judge Bhuwan Giri Sentenced to Prison for Marital Rape

Former Judge Bhuwan Giri’s legal saga reached a pivotal point on Monday as he was escorted to jail following his appearance at the District Court in Kathmandu. The embattled former judge was convicted of marital rape charges, marking a significant development in a case that has garnered widespread attention.

The decision to incarcerate Giri was handed down by a division bench comprised of Supreme Court Justices Hari Phuyal and Til Prasad Shrestha. This ruling, issued on April 3, overturned the previous orders of both the Kathmandu District Court and Patan High Court, which had granted Giri bail.

Giri’s legal journey has been marked by twists and turns. Despite earlier rulings granting him bail, the former judge had remained free, prompting his wife, Aarti Rawal, to persist in a legal battle to ensure justice prevailed.

The culmination of this legal battle occurred as Giri voluntarily surrendered himself to the court, resulting in his immediate incarceration.
