From Roar to Rest: HoR to Go Quiet for 10 Days

The bustling chambers of the House of Representatives (HoR) are set to fall silent for the next 10 days as the esteemed Speaker, Dev Raj Ghimire, alongside chief whips of major political parties, embark on a pivotal journey to attend the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Switzerland.

Speaker Ghimire, accompanied by a distinguished delegation including NC Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak, CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula, CPN (Maoist Center) Chief Whip Hit Raj Pandey, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chief Whip Santosh Pariyar, and National Assembly member of Maoist Center Ganga Belbase, among others, will represent Nepal at the IPU meeting.

According to Ek Ram Giri, the Spokesperson for the Federal Parliament Secretariat, the delegation is scheduled to depart for the IPU meeting on Thursday and is expected to return to Nepal on March 29, 2024.

The 148th Assembly of the IPU is slated to convene in Geneva from March 23 to 27, serving as a platform for global parliamentary collaboration and discourse.

In light of this significant international engagement, the House meeting has been temporarily halted until March 31, allowing the Nepali delegation, led by the Speaker and chief whips, to participate in discussions shaping the global parliamentary landscape.

The journey not only underscores Nepal’s commitment to international parliamentary cooperation but also provides a unique opportunity for its representatives to contribute to critical dialogues on a multitude of global issues.
