General Secretary Sharma Objects to Presidential Amnesty Decision

Bishwa Prakash Sharma, the General Secretary of Nepali Congress, has voiced his concerns over a controversial decision by the government that has drawn the presidential institution into the spotlight.

Sharma’s objections are directed towards the amnesty granted to Yograj Dhakal, also known as Regal Dhakal, hailing from Banke. This decision was made by President Ram Chandra Poudel on the occasion of Constitution Day, following the government’s recommendation.

Yograj Dhakal had been serving a life sentence for his involvement in the murder of Chetan Manandhar. Notably, Dhakal is associated with Nepal Tarun Dal, the youth wing of the Nepali Congress. His release was celebrated by supporters of the Nepali Congress, who took to the streets to welcome him.

During his statement, Sharma refrained from explicitly mentioning Dhakal’s name but expressed his disapproval of the situation. He pointed out, “The Officiating Prime Minister is here with us, and so is the Law Minister. Our activities are causing criticism of the presidential institution. It doesn’t seem to be correct in any way.”
