Gold smuggling scam: 3 customs officials apprehended
In the latest development regarding the investigation into the smuggling of over 60 kilos of gold into the country via Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), three customs employees have been arrested.
They are customs officer Pushpa Joshi and non-Gazetted first class officers Birendra Nepali and Kamal Pariyar, the employees in the TIA Customs Office, confirmed Nepali Police spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Kuber Kadayat.
The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police arrested the three on Saturday. It may be noted that the Revenue Investigation Department on July 19 had confiscated the smuggled gold weighing 60 kilos and 716 grams from the Sinamangal area.
To date, 30 individuals have been arrested for investigations into the scam.
