Health Minister Stresses Continued Commitment to Ending Maternal Mortality

Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, has emphasized the need for sustained efforts to eliminate maternal and child mortality in Nepal.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Maternal and Newborn Health Simulation Lab at Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital in Thapathali, Minister Paudel praised Nepal’s notable progress in reducing maternal and child death rates in recent years. He reiterated the government’s commitment to further advancing this progress by prioritizing investments in obstetric and gynecological services.

The new simulation lab, located at the hospital’s Kupandole branch, was established with support from One Heart Worldwide. It is designed to enhance the skills and clinical capacity of healthcare professionals involved in maternal and neonatal care.

Minister Paudel also called for the expansion of such facilities at the provincial level to strengthen the health system nationwide.

Health Ministry Secretary Hari Prasad Mainali underscored the importance of ensuring the lab’s effective operation and long-term sustainability. Noting the current shortage of trained personnel, he stressed that maintaining the facility’s functionality will be critical to its success.
