Historic Move: India Offers Nepali Cricket Team ‘Home Ground’ on Indian Soil

In a surprising development during a recent high-level visit, India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S Jaishankar, made a groundbreaking announcement, offering the Nepali national cricket team a ‘home ground’ on Indian soil. Captain Rohit Poudel of the Nepali cricket team revealed the news, expressing his gratitude for the unexpected gesture from the Indian government.

The announcement came during a meeting initiated by Minister Jaishankar, who took the opportunity to meet with the Nepali cricket players and congratulate them on their selection for the upcoming World Cup. The meeting emphasized the growing ties between the two neighboring nations in the realm of sports.

Captain Rohit Poudel, visibly pleased with the meeting, stated, “It was a pleasure to meet him because he himself called us. He congratulated us on being selected for the World Cup and discussed the support we can receive from the BCCI in the future.”

Rohit clarified that the offer for a ‘home ground’ was extended proactively by Minister Jaishankar, drawing parallels with the significant role the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) played in the progress of Afghanistan’s cricket by providing them with a home ground.

While the specific location for the proposed home ground has not been disclosed, Rohit expressed optimism about the potential impact on Nepali cricket. He highlighted the advantages of playing in different conditions, stating, “It would be significant. Playing in different conditions there would be a big advantage for our team.”

The meeting between the Nepali cricket team and Minister Jaishankar took place during a joint session between Nepal and India, where the Minister acknowledged the team’s success under Captain Rohit’s leadership. The achievements in various matches, including the Asia Cup, World Cup League stage, and Asian Games, were commended by the Indian External Affairs Minister.
