Home Ministry Directs Establishment of Dalit Desk at Police Headquarters

The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed the establishment of a Dalit Desk at the Police Headquarters to facilitate investigations into caste-based discrimination, harassment, and untouchability. A designated contact person will oversee its operations.

According to Home Ministry Spokesperson Ram Chandra Tiwari, an official letter has been dispatched to set up the Dalit Desk and ensure its effective implementation. Additionally, all 77 district-level Dalit Desks will be strengthened for better coordination and management.

“The circular mandates the inclusion of Dalit community representatives in the desk’s operations to enforce anti-discrimination laws and promote good governance by addressing social injustices,” Tiwari stated. He emphasized that police personnel assigned to these desks must work in a structured and efficient manner.

The decision follows a recent meeting between Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and representatives of the Joint Political Dalit Struggle Committee, where Minister Lekhak committed to establishing the desk at the national level to address cases of caste-based discrimination.
