HoR Lawmakers Call for Fair Probe into Rs 250 Million Currency Confiscation

Lawmakers in the House of Representatives (HoR) have urged the government to ensure an impartial investigation into the recent confiscation of foreign currencies worth approximately Rs 250 million in Tokha, Kathmandu.

Speaking in today’s HoR session, Madhav Sapkota expressed serious concern over the seizure of such a large sum of illegal money, calling it an alarming indication of the growing nexus of organized crime and smuggling in Nepal.

It may be recalled that a Kathmandu Valley Crime Division team arrested Kusang Lama (43) from Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality, Sindhupalchowk, on Monday evening, recovering a container full of foreign currencies, including US dollars and Euros.

Meanwhile, lawmaker Sumana Shrestha urged the government to take the education sector seriously, demanding clarification on Madhesh Province’s decision to withdraw from the School Education Examination this year. She also criticized political interference in the Free Students’ Union (FSU), which, she argued, is negatively affecting university education.

Additionally, Ramkrishna Yadav called for enhanced security measures, while Ram Kumar Rai drew attention to the fire incident in Khotang district on March 17. Ramhari Khatiwada and Mukta Kumari Yadav also raised concerns over various contemporary issues.
