India Introduces Air-Conditioned Helmets to Combat Heat Wave for Traffic Police

Amidst the scorching heat wave sweeping across various parts of India, police departments in several states have taken a novel step to safeguard their traffic personnel by introducing air-conditioned helmets.

Designed to provide relief from temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, these helmets come equipped with cooling mechanisms and visors to shield the eyes from sunlight, according to officials.

The initiative gained momentum after reports surfaced of traffic policemen fainting on duty due to the oppressive heat, particularly in states like Gujarat.

The air-conditioned helmets operate with the aid of a battery, which is conveniently fitted at the waist. With a charging point available, these helmets can function for up to eight hours on a full charge, ensuring prolonged protection for traffic personnel exposed to the harsh weather conditions.

Earlier this month, the India Meteorological Department issued warnings of extreme heat conditions prevailing from April to June, particularly affecting the central and western peninsular regions. In light of these forecasts, the introduction of air-conditioned helmets marks a proactive measure by authorities to mitigate the adverse effects of the heat wave on traffic police personnel, prioritizing their safety and well-being on duty.
