Janamat Party Prepares to Exit from Coalition Government

The Janamat Party, a key component responsible for the Federal Affairs and General Administration Ministry, is reportedly preparing to withdraw its support from the government.

Sources suggest that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has taken note of potential signs indicating the Janamat Party’s exit from the coalition government. In response, the Prime Minister has extended an invitation to Chairman Dr. CK Raut for a crucial discussion scheduled for Monday.

On Sunday, Janamat Party Chair Dr. Raut emphasized that preparations have been made within the party to step out of the government at any given moment. He asserted, “We are not driven by a hunger for power. We are willing to step aside if Prime Minister Dahal expresses disinterest in including us in power-sharing.”

Notably, Dr. Raut chose not to participate in the coalition meeting held in Baluwatar on Sunday. Additionally, he refrained from signing the joint appeal issued after the meeting of coalition leaders, advocating for support in the upcoming January 25 National Assembly elections.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the coalition’s decision to deny any seats to the Janamat Party in the forthcoming elections, Dr. Raut announced that his party would independently file its candidacy. The strained relations between the Janamat Party and the government escalated after the coalition’s refusal to allocate even a single seat to Dr. Raut’s party in the upcoming polls.

Currently holding six seats in the House of Representatives, the Janamat Party possesses one seat within Prime Minister Dahal’s cabinet. As the situation unfolds, political observers are closely monitoring the outcome of the discussion between Prime Minister Dahal and Chairman Dr. CK Raut, as it could have significant implications for the stability of the coalition government.
