Karnali Province Marks First Year with Achievements

The Karnali province government celebrated the completion of its first year, showcasing a remarkable array of accomplishments. Chief Minister Rajkumar Sharma provided a comprehensive overview of the progress made during this period in a detailed presentation on Saturday.

CM Sharma highlighted the diverse spectrum of activities undertaken by the province government, spanning development projects, policy decisions, legislative developments, and strategic planning initiatives. The first-year report revealed the approval of four bills and 18 regulations, with an additional three bills currently under consideration in the province assembly. Additionally, the government formulated 16 work procedures, five directives, three standards, and six strategic plans. Notably, 12 bills received principle agreement during this time.

Addressing the workforce situation, CM Sharma informed that the province successfully adjusted 2,929 approved staff posts in Karnali, filling 2,086 vacant positions, including those deputed from the federal government. Recommendations from the Public Service Commission and contractual employees were also addressed.

One significant achievement was the near completion of the organization and management survey, a comprehensive analysis that has involved discussions across all ministries. The province government appointed 826 employees in local governments and 322 through the province public service commission.

In terms of social initiatives, CM Sharma revealed that the government provided group accident insurance amounting to Rs 28.2 million to families affected by the Jajarkot earthquake. Life sustenance allowances were extended to survivors of the disaster, including the injured and mutilated. Martyr memorial allowances were also distributed to the families of martyrs.

Beyond these, the government prioritized education by distributing scholarships for higher education and expedited the construction of the Karnali Province Stadium. The province also focused on economic development by registering new industries, expanding irrigation facilities, and advancing infrastructural projects.

Looking forward, CM Sharma emphasized the government’s commitment to development, revealing that the province government has already begun formulating the concept note for the second five-year plan. Furthermore, there is a strong emphasis on creating a project bank to drive future developmental initiatives.

As the Karnali province completes its inaugural year, these achievements underscore the commitment and effectiveness of the government in fostering comprehensive development across various sectors.
