Kathmandu Gurkhas Triumph Over Karnali Yaks in Nepal Premier League

The Kathmandu Gurkhas secured a thrilling victory over the Karnali Yaks in today’s Siddhartha Bank Nepal Premier League (NPL) match at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground. Chasing a target of 150 runs, the Gurkhas clinched the win with three balls to spare, finishing at 150 for the loss of seven wickets in 19.3 overs.

Batting first after losing the toss, Karnali Yaks posted a competitive total of 149 runs for five wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Shikhar Dhawan led the charge with a stellar unbeaten 72 off 51 balls, hitting four boundaries and five sixes. Contributions came from Chadwick Walton (21 off 15), Zeeshan Maqsood (14 off 11), Babar Hayat (13 off 18), and Gulshan Jha (12 off 19).

The Gurkhas’ bowlers kept the opposition in check, with Gerhard Erasmus claiming two wickets, while Nathan Sowter, Dipesh Kandel, and captain Karan KC took one wicket each.

In response, Kathmandu Gurkhas successfully chased the target, powered by a composed unbeaten 40 from Sumit Maharjan, who faced 37 balls and struck three boundaries and a six. Gerhard Erasmus contributed a crucial 38 off 28 balls, hitting three boundaries and two sixes, while captain Karan KC smashed a quick-fire 28 off just 10 balls with two boundaries and two sixes. Michael Levitt chipped in with 22 runs, including two boundaries and a six.

The Yaks’ bowlers fought valiantly, with Sompal Kami, Nandan Yadav, Gulshan Jha, Zeeshan Maqsood, and Bipin Sharma each taking a wicket.

The victory adds another win to the Kathmandu Gurkhas’ campaign in the NPL, showcasing their ability to perform under pressure. Fans at the TU Cricket Ground were treated to an electrifying match that highlighted both teams’ skill and determination.
