KP Sharma Oli Appointed Prime Minister of Nepal
Chairman of the CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli, has been appointed as the Prime Minister of Nepal. President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed Oli by Article 76 (2) of the constitution, as confirmed by the President’s Press Advisor, Kiran Pokhrel.
Oli’s appointment follows the backing of the largest political party in parliament, the Nepali Congress. UML Chairman Oli and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba submitted the signatures of a majority of lawmakers, proposing Oli as the new prime minister. This move came after President Paudel called for staking a claim for the premiership following the outgoing PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s failure to secure a trust vote in the House of Representatives meeting on Friday.
The President had set a deadline until today for staking a claim with the support of two or more political parties represented in the parliament. The oath-taking ceremony for the new Prime Minister will be held at 11:00 AM tomorrow.
