Maoist Center Proposes Restructuring with a 99-Member Central Committee

The ruling Maoist Center has submitted a proposal to restructure its organization by forming a 99-member Central Committee, as per the draft prepared by the Statute Drafting Committee.

Under the proposed restructuring, a substantial portion of the committee, comprising 75 members, including office bearers, will be selected through direct elections. The remaining members will be nominated, marking a notable shift in the party’s internal dynamics.

Party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda,” who also holds the position of Prime Minister, received the proposal for consideration. The draft outlines a detailed breakdown of the 75 directly elected members, encompassing key roles such as Chairman, Senior Vice-Chair, Vice-Chairmen (Open), Vice-Chair (Female), Vice-Chair (Inclusive), General Secretary, Deputy General Secretary, Secretary, and Treasurer. In total, 23 officers will be elected through this direct election process.

Additionally, the proposal suggests that 50 central members will be elected through the new structure, while 24 central members will be nominated based on the recommendations of the central Chairman.

It’s worth noting that the existing Maoist statute allows for a committee of 199 members, signifying a strategic move towards a more streamlined and focused leadership structure.

The fate of this proposed restructuring will be determined by the Stature Assembly during its upcoming session scheduled from February 13-15, where party members will deliberate and make the final decision on the party’s organizational changes. This move is anticipated to shape the Maoist Center’s future trajectory and influence its internal power dynamics.
