Maoist’s Chair Dahal Takes Lead in Unification Efforts with Dr. Bhattarai’s NSP

The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) has taken a decisive step towards unity with Dr. Baburam Bhattarai’s Nepal Samajwadi Party. The party’s leadership, led by Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, has formed a Unity Coordination Committee tasked with facilitating the unification process.

The decision was made during a standing committee meeting held on Saturday, where Chairman Dahal was entrusted with the responsibility of leading the coordination efforts. Maoist Center Spokesperson Agni Sapkota highlighted that the committee’s primary objective is to promote unity and collaboration between the CPN (Maoist Center) and the Nepal Samajwadi Party.

As part of the unification process, the meeting on Saturday outlined criteria for the selection of convention representatives. Provincial in-charges of the Maoists provided reports during the gathering. It was announced that a statute convention is scheduled to take place from February 13 to 15, where crucial decisions regarding the merger are expected to be deliberated upon.

In a move aimed at streamlining party structures and preventing committees from becoming oversized, the Maoist Center proposed a 151-member Central Committee. Currently, the party boasts 385 central members and 199 alternate central members. Responding to concerns about the committee’s size, the Statute Drafting Committee has prepared a draft aligning with the party’s objective of maintaining an efficient and focused Central Committee.

The formation of the Unity Coordination Committee signals a significant stride towards political consolidation in Nepal, and the upcoming statute convention is anticipated to be a pivotal moment for the CPN (Maoist Center) and Nepal Samajwadi Party’s journey towards unification.
