NA Election: Ongoing Voting Across All Seven Provinces, Results Expected Today

Voting is currently underway at designated polling stations and centers in the capitals of the seven provinces to elect 19 members of the National Assembly (NA). The 19 seats in the Upper House of the Federal Parliament are set to become vacant on March 4.

The Election Commission has scheduled voting from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm today. The Commission has clarified that the counting of votes will commence immediately after the conclusion of the voting process.

Shreedhar Panthi, the deputy spokesperson for the Election Commission, has confirmed that voting is taking place in all seven provinces. He further mentioned that the election results are expected to be announced later today. The electoral college, composed of Province Assembly members, chairpersons, vice-chairpersons of rural municipalities, as well as mayors and deputy mayors of urban municipalities, will participate in the voting.

Notably, a single vote from a Province Assembly member carries a weightage of 53, while the votes of the chair and vice-chair of rural municipalities and mayor and deputy-mayor of urban municipalities carry a weightage of 19 each. The total vote weightage is 57,559.

A total of 2,047 voters, including 549 Province Assembly members and 1,498 chair and vice-chair of rural municipalities, and mayor and deputy-mayor of urban municipalities, are expected to cast their votes in this election.
