Inspector General of Police Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, accompanied by Superintendent of Police Anupam Shamsher Rana and Senior Deputy Inspector of Police Purushottam Nepali, departed for Austria on Sunday to participate in the 91st General Assembly of Interpol. The General Assembly, organized by the Interpol General Secretariat in Vienna, is scheduled to take place from November 28 to December 1.
As part of the delegation, Senior Deputy Inspector of Police Purushottam, known for his successful ascent of Mount Everest where he proudly hoisted the national flag of Nepal, the Interpol flag, and the flag of Nepal Police, has received a special invitation to participate in the General Assembly during the celebration of Interpol’s 100th anniversary.
The General Assembly, gathering representatives from all 195 member states of Interpol, will involve important discussions and decision-making through voting on critical issues. Inspector General of Police Kunwar is set to engage in courtesy meetings and discussions with Interpol President and Secretary General. Additionally, there are scheduled discussions and bilateral meetings with representatives from Interpol’s Global Outreach and Regional Cooperation (GORC), as well as with delegates from friendly nations such as India, China, and the UAE.
The absence of Inspector General Basant Bahadur Kunwar will see Additional Inspector General Tek Prasad Rai overseeing the daily administrative responsibilities at the Nepal Police Headquarters. The delegation received a warm farewell at Tribhuvan International Airport Gauchar from Additional Inspector General of Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police, and other senior police officers.
The participation of the Nepali delegation in this prestigious international gathering underscores Nepal’s commitment to global law enforcement cooperation and its active role within the Interpol community.
