No Compromise on Good Governance, Asserts PM Dahal Amidst Opposition Scrutiny

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has doubled down on his government’s dedication to fostering good governance, asserting that there will be no compromise when it comes to upholding integrity and accountability within the administration.

Responding to queries raised by members of the House of Representatives (HoR), Prime Minister Dahal made it clear that any individuals implicated in wrongdoing during investigations will face the full force of the law. “No one will escape accountability if proven guilty,” he affirmed.

Highlighting the government’s proactive stance, the Prime Minister emphasized the ongoing efforts to tackle major corruption scandals, instances of gold smuggling, and illegal encroachments on public land. “We are intensifying our actions against such illicit activities,” he declared.

Addressing concerns over the appointment of Rabi Lamichhane, President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, despite allegations of financial misconduct in a cooperative, Prime Minister Dahal provided clarity. He stated that investigations have not implicated Lamichhane in any significant role within the cooperative’s structure nor have they found grounds for legal action against him.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister revealed that documents confirm the repayment of a cooperative loan associated with Lamichhane’s name, and law enforcement agencies have indicated that no further investigation into his affairs is warranted.

Despite these assurances, the appointment of Lamichhane has faced criticism from the major opposition party, the Nepali Congress, citing ongoing investigations into his alleged involvement in cooperative disputes.

Prime Minister Dahal’s unwavering stance on promoting good governance and his government’s commitment to transparency in addressing allegations underscore a pivotal moment in Nepal’s political landscape, as the administration navigates challenges while striving to uphold democratic values and principles.
