Police Crackdown: 76 Arrested, 664 Drivers Penalized During Holi Festivities

In a bid to maintain order and safety during the vibrant festivities of Holi, Kathmandu Valley Police Office undertook rigorous security measures resulting in the arrest of 76 individuals and penalization of over 664 drivers on Sunday.

SP Abadesh Bista disclosed that the crackdown primarily targeted instances of public disturbances, traffic violations, and illicit activities, resulting in the apprehension of 70 revelers in Kathmandu, four in Bhaktapur, and two in Lalitpur.

Furthermore, stringent security checks led to the imposition of penalties on numerous drivers found violating traffic regulations across the valley.

Preemptive security measures commenced early in the day, with joint security operations conducted at over 90 locations across the federal capital. SSP Bhupendra Khatri emphasized the objective of ensuring a safe and disciplined environment for the Holi celebrations while thwarting potential untoward incidents.

Amidst these security efforts, the festival itself unfolded with fervor in the hilly region, characterized by colorful exchanges, jubilant dances, and joyous camaraderie among friends, families, and loved ones. The government’s declaration of a public holiday further facilitated widespread participation in the festivities.

While the hilly region embraced the spirit of Holi on Sunday, anticipation mounts for the celebrations in the Terai region, scheduled for Monday.
