Prime Minister Asserts Secular Stance Amidst Religious Inquiries

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has responded to inquiries regarding his religious beliefs by emphasizing his identity as a secularist rather than identifying as a believer or an atheist.

During a parliamentary session, a question was raised regarding his visit to the Mahakaleshwar temple in Indore, India, which prompted Prachanda to address the issue.

Prachanda acknowledged that esteemed members of the parliament had questioned the Prime Minister’s stance on matters of faith, prompting him to clarify his position.

He stated, “I am a principled and unwavering secularist.” He firmly advocated for equal recognition of all religions, highlighting the importance of maintaining a state that does not favor or discriminate against any particular religion. He emphasized the need for clarity on this matter, stating that the state should refrain from adopting a position that would marginalize or distance any religious community.

In addition, Prachanda emphasized the importance of respecting people’s individual faiths. He explained that he holds the belief that one should not engage in actions that could harm any religious community. By expressing his commitment to respecting the beliefs of intellectuals, Muslims, and other communities, he underscored his dedication to promoting inclusivity and harmony among diverse religious groups.
