Prime Minister Prachanda Advocates Dialogue for Global Peace

In a meeting with a high-level delegation from the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs, led by Izumi Nakamitsu, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, popularly known as ‘Prachanda,’ underscored the importance of dialogue in resolving conflicts and promoting world peace.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Dahal expressed Nepal’s unwavering commitment to global peace and highlighted the country’s exemplary peace process, serving as a model for nations worldwide. He emphasized that, given the sensitive conditions prevailing in various parts of the world, dialogue remains the only viable option for resolving conflicts.

Referring to ongoing conflicts such as the Russia-Ukraine war and the Israel and Hamas conflict, Prachanda urged nations to seek peaceful solutions through dialogue. He recounted Nepal’s significant role in international forums dedicated to peace-building and reiterated the country’s support for the United Nations’ efforts in maintaining global peace.

In his capacity as the leader of the least developed countries in the UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Prachanda assured continued support for the UN’s endeavors to establish and sustain world peace.

Under-Secretary-General Izumi Nakamitsu highlighted the establishment of the South Asia Centre on Disarmament Affairs in Nepal, expressing optimism that Nepal would emerge as a peace center in the South Asian region. Nakamitsu commended Nepal’s contribution to UN peacekeeping missions, recognizing it as the second-largest troops-contributing nation.

The UN Resident Coordinator in Nepal, Hanna Singer, and foreign affairs advisor to the Prime Minister, Rupak Sapkota, along with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, were present during the meeting.

Nepal’s commitment to dialogue and its pivotal role in promoting peace regionally and globally were emphasized, reinforcing the nation’s dedication to a harmonious and conflict-free world.
