Rain and Snowfall Bring Relief to Farmers in Jumla

Farmers in Jumla have found relief as snowfall and rain since Friday morning have rejuvenated their winter crops.

Although the district typically experiences snowfall every winter, this year’s delay had caused concerns among farmers. However, snow up to one foot deep has blanketed various parts of the district, according to Mun Bahadur Yedi, a local resident of Patarasi Rural Municipality-1.

The prolonged dry spell had left winter crops such as barley and wheat drying up, as they largely depend on rainfall. Durga Shahi, a farmer from Hima Rural Municipality-6, expressed that the snowfall has eased the planting of new apple seedlings along with barley and wheat.

Deepak Singh Dhami, Information Officer at the Agricultural Development Office, highlighted that the snowfall would significantly benefit the planting of apple and walnut seedlings in the region.

Meanwhile, air services in Upper Karnali, including Jumla, have been disrupted due to the snowfall. Public transportation, including long and short-distance vehicles from Khalanga Bazaar, has also been partially affected, reported Tila Karnali Yatayat.

According to the Meteorological Field Office, the district has received 33 millimeters of rainfall in the last 24 hours.
