Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Stages Massive Demonstration in Kathmandu Valley

: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) ignited the streets of Kathmandu Valley today as they staged a massive demonstration demanding the fulfillment of their 40-point charter of demands presented to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on February 21.

RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden, alongside senior leader Pashupati Shamsher Rana, led the charged demonstrations, which saw rallies originating from multiple points across the federal capital. Speaking to The Kathmandu Post, party spokesperson Mohan Shrestha confirmed the enthusiastic participation of cadres not only from Kathmandu but also Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, and nearby districts.

The heart of the demonstration culminated at Bhrikuti Mandap, where Chairman Lingden delivered a stirring address to the assembled masses. Lingden reiterated the party’s demands, which include the reinstatement of the constitutional monarchy as a ‘guardian of the state,’ the restoration of Nepal as a Hindu kingdom, and immediate measures for religious conservation. Additionally, the party calls for the abolition of provincial structures, advocating for a streamlined governance model comprising only central and local tiers.

Furthermore, the RPP advocates for the establishment of a directly elected executive head and proposes a constitutional and legal limitation of two terms in executive positions.

However, amidst the fervor of the demonstration, tensions escalated as protestors removed road dividers, prompting security personnel to intervene. Water cannons were deployed to maintain order after protestors turned rowdy.

The demonstration marks another chapter in RPP’s ongoing efforts to exert pressure on the government to address their demands, signaling a continued struggle for their envisioned political and societal reforms.
