RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane to Appear Before Kathmandu District Court

Rabi Lamichhane, Chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and former Home Minister, is set to appear before the District Court in Kathmandu today in connection with an ongoing embezzlement case.

Lamichhane was released on bail yesterday after posting NPR 6.5 million at the Kaski District Court, where he was ordered to appear over allegations of misappropriating funds from Suryadarshan Cooperatives in Pokhara. Following his release, he was handed over to his family.

Today’s court appearance pertains to a similar case of fund embezzlement involving a cooperative in Kathmandu, as confirmed by RSP Acting Spokesperson Manish Jha.

In the Kaski case, six individuals, including Lamichhane, were granted bail after a 10-day hearing. District Judge Nitij Rai set varying bail amounts: NPR 8.8 million for Chhabi Lal Joshi, NPR 3.7 million for Pachhai, NPR 1.5 million for Ram Bahadur Khanal, and NPR 500,000 each for Mina Gurung and Arati Gurung. Krishna Bahadur Gurung was released on NPR 100,000 bail. However, Pachhai remains in detention, having failed to post the required amount.

The Kaski District Attorney’s Office filed charges against 44 individuals, including Lamichhane, on December 22, accusing them of misappropriating cooperative funds. While those released on bail are under ongoing investigation, the legal process continues to unfold across multiple jurisdictions.
