Top Bahadur Rayamajhi faces legal action: Remanded in custody for three days

Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, the suspended Secretary of the CPN-UML , was arrested on Sunday in connection with the fraudulent Bhutanese refugee scheme.

On Monday, he was presented before the Kathmandu District Court, which remanded him in custody for three days.

Rayamajhi had been on the run after the court issued an arrest warrant against him on May 3

Police have apprehended 13 individuals, including high-ranking bureaucrats and politicians, in relation to the scam. The suspects are accused of amassing a large sum of money from people and producing false documents to send them to the United States as Bhutanese refugees.

Correction: Earlier here we incorrectly reported that Top Bahadur Rayamajhi had been suspended from his position as a Member of Parliament. After further investigation, we have found that this information was not accurate and we apologize for any confusion caused. Rayamajhi was only suspended from his position as the Secretary of the CPN-UML party.
