Tourism Is Key to Nepal’s Prosperity, Says Foreign Minister Dr Rana

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arzu Rana Deuba has emphasized the vital role of tourism in driving Nepal’s development and prosperity, calling for greater efforts to harness the country’s immense tourism potential.

Speaking at a retreat organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Antu and Kanyam of Ilam, Dr Rana addressed heads of foreign missions and representatives from various international organizations. She highlighted Nepal’s unique cultural heritage, natural beauty, and biodiversity as the nation’s greatest assets, forming a solid foundation for sustainable growth and international engagement.

“Nepal’s vibrant traditions, scenic landscapes, and rich biodiversity are what make our country so special. These treasures not only define our identity but also hold the key to our development and prosperity,” she said.

Dr Rana described Ilam as a prime example of this potential, praising its tea gardens, misty hills, clean air, and the hospitality of its people. She invited the visiting diplomats to fully experience Ilam’s natural charm and local lifestyle, encouraging them to help share Nepal’s story with the world.

“I urge you to become ambassadors of Nepal’s tourism,” she said. “Take with you the inspiring experiences and beauty of Ilam and share them with your people back home to promote Nepal as a unique destination.”

Calling for foreign investment in Nepal’s tourism and infrastructure, she stressed the transformative impact such support could have in unlocking untapped opportunities.

Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai also addressed the gathering, encouraging guests to immerse themselves in Nepal’s cultural and natural wonders.

The retreat was attended by ambassadors from more than 15 countries, including the UK, Japan, and Australia, as well as representatives from international organizations. Participants explored the lush landscapes of Kanyam, captured the scenic beauty of tea plantations, and watched the sunrise from the hilltops on Monday morning.

The event, co-organized by the Nepal Tourism Board and Suryodaya Municipality of Ilam, was held to mark the Nepali New Year 2082. It aimed to spotlight Ilam as a promising tourism hub and showcase Nepal’s warmth, cultural richness, and diverse natural offerings to the global community.
