UML’s Picks for By-elections: Suhang for Ilam-2, Daman for Bajhang 1(A)

In a strategic move ahead of the upcoming by-polls, the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist-Leninist (CPN-UML) has finalized its candidates for two key constituencies. Suhang Nembang, the youngest son of the late former Speaker and UML Vice Chairperson Subash Chandra Nembang, has been selected to contest in the by-polls for the Ilam-2 constituency of the House of Representatives.

The decision came following a decisive meeting of the party’s Secretariat held on Sunday. With the Ilam-2 seat lying vacant after the unfortunate demise of Subash Chandra Nembang, Suhang Nembang emerges as a prominent candidate to carry forward his father’s legacy.

Meanwhile, in another significant move, CPN-UML has nominated Daman Bahadur Bhandari as its candidate for the by-election in the Bajhang 1(A) seat of the Sudurpashchim Province Assembly. Bhandari, who currently chairs UML’s Bajhang District Committee, brings a wealth of experience and grassroots support to the table.

The Election Commission has slated the by-polls for the vacant seats of the House of Representatives and Sudurpashchim Province Assembly to be held on April 27. These by-elections hold particular importance in filling crucial vacancies in the legislative bodies.

The Bajhang 1(A) seat of the Sudurpashchim Province Assembly was left vacant following the untimely demise of Prithvi Bahadur Singh, a prominent figure from the Nepali Congress who also served as the Minister of Internal Affairs and Law in the provincial government.

With these nominations, CPN-UML aims to consolidate its position in these constituencies and uphold its representation in the federal and provincial legislative bodies. The upcoming by-polls are expected to witness intense campaigning as parties vie for electoral success in these crucial regions.
