UML’s Shrestha wins HoR election from Kathmandu-9

CPN (UML) candidate Krishna Gopal Shrestha has won the election to the Member of House of Representatives (HoR) from the Kathmandu electoral constituency-9.

The 64-year-old leader defeated his nearest competitor Tek Bahadur Pokhrel from the Rastriya Swatantra Party by 995 votes to secure a win. He obtained 11,956 while Pokhrel got 10,961.
This is the fourth victory for Shrestha in the HoR.

He, the permanent resident of Balkhu of Kathmandu metropolis -14, was born to mother Harimaya Shrestha and father Harilal Shrestha. He has a noticeable role in the democratic movements.

Starting his political career as the student union leader, Shrestha is now the CPN (UML) politburo member. The MA graduate in Economics had already served as the Minister of State for local government and the Education Minister.

Similarly, CPN (Maoist Centre)’s Kalpana Dhamala is in the third position with 6,400 votes. A total of 44,379 votes were cast during the Sunday’s voting and the number of invalid votes was 1,862, said election officer Puja Khatri.

A total of 22 candidates: 12 from political parties and 10 independents were in the election race from the constituency. Of them, 17 are males and five are females. The number of the voters here is 72,173.
