19 NA Seats Set to Go Vacant on March 3, Election Date Proposed

The Election Commission has proposed holding elections for 19 soon-to-be-vacant National Assembly seats on January 24, 25, or 26. Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya made the recommendation during a session with the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives. He emphasized the government’s need to make a decision regarding these dates.

Additionally, Thapaliya mentioned the possibility of conducting elections for a vacant House of Representatives seat, two provincial assembly seats, and 24 local government positions on the same date. The 19 National Assembly seats are set to become vacant on March 3, as mandated by existing law, which requires elections to be held one month prior to their vacancy.
