Bhutanese refugee leader Tek Nath Rijal arrested

Bhutanese refugee leader Tek Nath Rijal has been apprehended by the Nepal Police (NP) on the grounds of his alleged participation in a fraudulent scheme revolving around fake Bhutanese refugees. Rijal, who has been residing in Nepal as a Bhutanese refugee, was taken into custody.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dan Bahadur Karki, stationed at the District Police Range in Kathmandu, Area, has confirmed the arrest of Tek Nath Rijal, highlighting his suspected involvement in the illicit transportation of individuals masquerading as Bhutanese refugees for settlement in a third country.

Rijal was detained in Jhapa and subsequently subjected to questioning at the District Police Range in Kathmandu, Area. Following this inquiry, he has been transported to the District Court, where authorities are seeking an extension of his detention.

Law enforcement officials assert that Rijal has been implicated in financial transactions associated with the fabricated Bhutanese refugee scam.
