Central Leader of NUP Alleges Death Threats from Party Patron

Ramesh Bishwakarma, a prominent figure within the central committee of the Nagarik Unmukti Party, has come forward alleging grave threats to his life and those of three other party leaders. In a press conference held in Kathmandu on Monday, Bishwakarma disclosed that he and his colleagues received ominous warnings from the party’s patron, Resham Lal Chaudhary.

According to Bishwakarma, Chaudhary cautioned them about severe repercussions if the Sudurpashchim Province government, led by Kamal Bahadur Shaha, faces upheaval. “Chaudhary conveyed that our lives would be endangered if the current government in Sudurpashchim is destabilized,” stated Bishwakarma during the conference. He further emphasized the seriousness of the threat, especially following an assault he allegedly endured at the party’s office earlier that day.

Detailing the attack, Bishwakarma recounted arriving at the office at 8 am for a meeting scheduled by party chairperson Ranjita Shrestha. “Before Chairperson Shrestha’s arrival, unidentified individuals locked the doors and subjected me to assault,” he described. “This attack came on the heels of Chaudhary’s ominous warnings directed at me and my colleagues, including Tikapur Mayor Ram Lal Dagaura Tharu, Tikapur-4 Ward Chairperson Lalbir Chaudhary, and Tikapur-5 Ward Chairperson.”

Expressing his firm stance against any form of coercion aimed at safeguarding governmental stability, Bishwakarma asserted, “Any threat made to us in the name of protecting the government is utterly unacceptable.”

The alleged threats and the subsequent attack have fueled concerns over the safety of political figures amid escalating tensions within the region. As calls for investigations into these claims echo across political circles, the Nagarik Unmukti Party braces for further developments amidst this tumultuous period.
