Clash Between RPP Demonstrators and Police Leaves 14 Injured, 2 Arrested
Fourteen members of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) sustained injuries in a clash with police during a demonstration in Kathmandu. Two individuals were also taken into custody by the authorities.
According to AIG Deepak Thapa of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, the clash erupted when RPP protesters attempted to breach restricted areas, prompting police intervention. The demonstrators allegedly hurled stones, leading to their detainment by law enforcement.
Initially, police attempted to disperse the crowd with water cannons, but resorted to baton charges when the protestors persisted.
The RPP demonstration, led by party president Rajendra Lingden, demanded the abolition of the republic, reinstatement of a monarchy, elimination of secularism, and the declaration of Nepal as a Hindu nation.
