Deepak Malhotra Claims Innocence in Gold Seizure Case

Businessperson Deepak Malhotra held a press meet in Kathmandu on Thursday to address media reports linking him to a recent gold smuggling incident. He vehemently denied any involvement in illegal activities, particularly the gold seized outside the Tribhuvan International Airport Customs Office on Wednesday.

Dismissing the claims made by some media outlets, Malhotra stated, “I am in no way involved in that gold importation. I am not engaged in any illegal activities. All my business organizations are operating in a transparent manner.”

Malhotra further clarified that he has no association with the individuals who were arrested by the police in connection with the seized gold.

On Wednesday, the Department of Revenue Investigation intercepted a significant quantity of gold that was smuggled via Tribhuvan International Airport. According to officials, the confiscated gold is estimated to weigh around one quintal, which, based on Wednesday’s gold price, has a value of approximately Rs 969 million.
