Government Nominates Dr. Anjan Shakya as NA Member

The government has made a significant decision to recommend Dr. Anjan Shakya for a position in the National Assembly. Following a cabinet meeting on Friday, Minister for Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma confirmed the decision. Dr. Shakya, who has ties to CPN-UML, brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as the Executive Director of the Institute of Foreign Affairs and Nepal’s ambassador to Israel. This recommendation comes as one of the three positions in the National Assembly, appointed by the President on the cabinet’s recommendation, remains vacant since Bimala Rai Poudyal’s term ended in March.

Additionally, the cabinet decided to prorogue the winter session of parliament. This move marks a transition in legislative focus. Moreover, a committee has been formed to suggest chairpersons and office-bearers for two crucial transitional justice commissions: the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons. This development follows the government’s earlier decision in January to extend the term of these commissions by six months, now set to conclude in mid-July.
