Health Ministry Urges Vigilance Amidst Rising Concerns of JN.1 Sub-Variant

In light of the escalating concerns surrounding the new sub-variant JN.1, the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has issued a stern advisory, urging citizens to strictly adhere to health safety standards, especially in crowded spaces.

Citing the rapid spread of the JN.1 sub-variant in neighboring countries, the Ministry emphasized the critical need for vigilance. Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, Spokesperson at the MoHP, highlighted this concern during a press release, urging the public to prioritize health safety measures.

Dr. Budhathoki stressed the importance of using masks in public places, maintaining physical distance, and paying meticulous attention to hygiene practices. While assuring the public that the JN.1 variant has not been detected in Nepal thus far, he underscored the significance of preemptive measures.

To safeguard against the potential entry of the sub-variant into the country, Dr. Budhathoki revealed that thorough inspections are being conducted at health desks, health institutions, and all relevant agencies. The objective is to bolster preventive measures and create a robust defense against the potential intrusion of the new variant.

Despite the current absence of the JN.1 variant in Nepal, Dr. Budhathoki reassured the public that the Ministry has mobilized all necessary preparations to effectively manage COVID-19, should the new variant make its way into the country. The commitment to proactive inspection and preparedness reflects the government’s dedication to public health and safety.

As citizens await further updates on the evolving situation, the Ministry’s call for heightened vigilance and adherence to health safety protocols serves as a timely reminder of the collective responsibility to curb the spread of COVID-19 and its variants.
