Home Minister to Explain Presidential Pardons Decision

The Law, Justice, and Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives has decided to summon Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha to address concerns surrounding the presidential pardons granted on Constitution Day.

During a meeting held on Monday, the committee reached a consensus to request Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Shrestha to clarify the annulment of prison sentences carried out by the President, based on recommendations from the Council of Ministers on Constitution Day.

Committee Chairperson Bimala Subedi stated that the Home Minister will be invited to provide an explanation at a time convenient for him. Many individuals have voiced their dissatisfaction regarding the President’s pardons, particularly for individuals convicted of serious crimes.

Additionally, the committee has also decided to seek the Home Minister’s input on the issue of juvenile correctional homes.
