India Lays Foundation Stone for High Impact Community Development Projects in Darchula, Nepal

Today marked a significant milestone in the development partnership between India and Nepal as the foundation stones for two High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP) were laid and inaugurated in Darchula, Nepal.

Mangal Singh Dhami, Chairperson of Byas Rural Municipality, and Prashant Kumar Sona, Second Secretary of the Embassy of India, Kathmandu, laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Shree Himalaya Secondary School Building at Byas Rural Municipality-6, Darchula. The project, funded by the Government of India with a financial assistance of NRs.28.20 million, aims to enhance educational infrastructure in the region.

Simultaneously, Narendra Bahadur Singh Badal, Chairperson of Duhun Rural Municipality, along with Prashant Kumar Sona, inaugurated the School building of Shree Janabikash Secondary School at Duhun Rural Municipality. This school building, constructed at a project cost of NR.33.70 million, is another testament to the strong developmental ties between India and Nepal.

The projects, undertaken as part of the Nepal-India Development Cooperation, signify a joint effort to uplift communities and improve educational facilities in Darchula. Political representatives, government officials, social workers, school management representatives, teachers, parents, and students graced the occasion, highlighting the collaborative spirit behind these initiatives.

The Government of India grant, allocated under the Nepal-India Development Cooperation, will fund the construction of double-storied school buildings, toilet blocks, boundary walls, entry gates, and other essential facilities for Shree Himalaya Secondary School. Similarly, the grant was utilized for the construction of a school building for Shree Janabikash Secondary School.

The Chairpersons of Byas Rural Municipality and Duhun Rural Municipality expressed gratitude for the continuous developmental support extended by the Government of India. They acknowledged the positive impact of these projects on the local communities and emphasized their significance in improving educational standards and fostering holistic development in the region.

The new school buildings are expected to provide enhanced educational opportunities for students, creating a conducive environment for learning and contributing to the overall development of the education sector in Darchula, Nepal.

Since 2003, the Government of India has implemented over 551 HICDPs in Nepal across various sectors, with 489 projects already completed. Sudurpashchim Province, including Darchula, has benefited from 40 projects, underscoring India’s commitment to regional development.

Additionally, as part of its humanitarian assistance, India has gifted 1009 ambulances and 300 school buses to various institutions in Nepal. In Sudurpashchim Province alone, including Darchula District, 60 ambulances and 20 school buses have been provided, further strengthening people-to-people ties.

The successful implementation of HICDPs reflects the enduring partnership between India and Nepal, contributing to the socio-economic progress and infrastructure development in Nepal, particularly in vital sectors like education. As close neighbors, both countries remain committed to fostering mutual cooperation and prosperity for the benefit of their citizens.
