Karnali Yaks Secure First Win in NPL with Six-Wicket Victory Over Chitwan Rhinos
Karnali Yaks registered their first victory in the ongoing Nepal Premier League (NPL), defeating Chitwan Rhinos by six wickets at the TU Cricket Ground today. This win marks a turnaround for Karnali Yaks after two consecutive losses.
Chasing a target of 131 runs set by Chitwan Rhinos, Karnali Yaks reached 132/4 in 19.5 overs. Shikhar Dhawan was the standout performer with the bat, scoring 45 runs off 41 balls, including one six and four boundaries. Contributions from Chadwick Walton (30), Dev Khanal (25), Zeeshan Maqsood (12), and Arjun Gharti (11) solidified the Yaks’ chase.
Chitwan’s bowling attack saw skipper Kushal Malla, Ravi Bopara, and Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton pick up one wicket each, but they were unable to defend their total.
Earlier, after being sent into bat, Chitwan Rhinos managed 130/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Ravi Bopara top-scored with an unbeaten 59 off 40 balls, hitting one six and seven fours. Skipper Kushal Malla contributed 23 runs, while Bipin Rawal (11), Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton, Amar Rautela (both 9), and Deepak Bohara (8) added minor contributions.
Karnali’s bowling was spearheaded by Bipin Sharma, who claimed three wickets. Zeeshan Maqsood took two, while Nandan Yadav and captain Sompal Kami picked up one wicket each to restrict Chitwan’s total.
Despite the loss, Chitwan Rhinos remain strong contenders with two prior victories in the league, while Karnali Yaks have finally found momentum in their campaign. The match showcased competitive cricket, adding to the excitement of the NPL season.
