Lumbini’s CM Mahara Gears Up for Decisive Floor Test this Friday

Lumbini’s political landscape braces for a significant juncture as Chief Minister Jokh Bahadur Mahara faces a pivotal floor test scheduled for this Friday. Durlabh Kumar Pun, the secretary at the provincial assembly secretariat, confirmed the summons by Speaker Tularam Gharti Magar, calling for an assembly meeting at 1 pm on Friday with the sole agenda of conducting the crucial floor test.

Mahara, representing the ruling CPN (Maoist Centre), assumed office last Friday, succeeding Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary of the Nepali Congress who resigned following failed attempts to prove a majority in the provincial assembly.

With the chief minister’s camp boasting support from 48 lawmakers, including 29 from CPN-UML, 10 from the Maoist Centre, four from the Nagarik Unmukti Party, three from the Janata Samajbadi Party, one from CPN (Unified Socialist), and an independent member, Mahara appears poised to secure the confidence of the provincial assembly.

The threshold for securing a majority in the 87-member assembly stands at 44, and all eyes are now on the impending floor test, anticipated to be a defining moment in Lumbini’s political landscape.
